You can. These are all open source. But here's what you're signing up for.
Complexity
Paperless-ngx needs PostgreSQL, Redis, an OCR pipeline, and a document-conversion service working together. Mayan EDMS adds workers and a message broker. Get one component or version wrong and documents stop indexing, or fail to import at all. We set the whole stack up and keep it running.
Maintenance
OCR languages, conversion tools, and database migrations all change between releases. A botched upgrade can corrupt the search index or, worse, the archive you are legally required to retain. We test, migrate, and back up every change so your records stay intact.
Reliability
Your archive is where invoices, contracts, and tax records live for years. If it goes down you can't find a document during an audit; if a disk fails without backups, the records are gone. We monitor, replicate, and back up so your archive is there when you need it.
